Data & AI platform by Data Analytics
AI dashboards start with a clear business question
A dashboard makes developments visible; with a suitable setup, AI can help explore questions about those developments. These are different functions. A chart is not automatically AI, and a convincing explanation is not yet a proven cause. Value emerges when you connect a clear question to reliable data, suitable analysis and a presentation that can be checked. Data Analytics helps organise these elements together.
The examples on this page are hypothetical situations, not customer cases.

01
Distinguish description, querying and prediction
A descriptive dashboard shows what has happened or the current position. Examples include monthly revenue, outstanding orders or margin by product group. Filters and breakdowns let you investigate differences. This form of reporting can provide substantial value without involving an AI model.
Querying means that a user asks for information, for example in ordinary language. Prediction goes further: it estimates a future outcome using an appropriate method. A language model describing an existing trend does not automatically provide a reliable forecast. Assess which data, analytical method and validation each purpose actually requires.
02
Make the question specific and testable
A question such as 'How are sales doing?' leaves considerable room for interpretation. Specify the period, unit and comparison you mean. Example questions: 'Which product groups generated less revenue this quarter than last quarter?' and 'How did gross margin by customer segment develop over the same period?' This also clarifies which definitions must be established.
Next, determine what you want to do with the answer. A management meeting may need an overview, while an operational team needs order-level detail. Agree which outcome warrants further investigation. A well-formulated question prevents an attractive dashboard from being created without a connection to a decision or workflow.
03
Analyse before proposing an explanation
First check whether sources, periods and calculations are comparable. A shifted posting date or missing delivery may cause a discrepancy that says nothing about the underlying business trend. Break totals down by product, customer, location or time where needed. This shows where a change is actually occurring.
Example: revenue growth turns out to come mainly from higher prices, while sales volume falls. That insight differs from concluding that demand is growing. Keep possible explanations recognisable as hypotheses until additional data or professional knowledge supports them. An AI-generated explanation must not hide that intermediate step.
04
Translate analysis into visual insight
Choose the visualisation based on the question. A line helps show change over time; comparing categories often calls for a different display. Clearly show units, selected periods and relevant filters. Avoid allowing scale choices or missing context to make a small difference appear larger than it is.
A written explanation alongside a visualisation can help identify points requiring attention. Keep factual observations, possible explanations and suggested follow-up questions separate. For recurring management information, read more about dashboarding and Power BI dashboards. For financial management, see the existing financial dashboard rather than duplicating that application here.
05
Finish with review and focused follow-up
Use a consistent sequence: question, analysis, visual insight and review. Have a responsible subject-matter owner check whether the result matches known facts and whether exceptions have been handled correctly. Record which conclusions are shared and which require further investigation. This keeps the basis for decisions and remaining uncertainty visible.
ENABLE is the Data & AI platform from Data Analytics for connecting and structuring business data, with controlled access for dashboards, analysis, and developing and sharing apps and AI. Data Analytics supports setup and management. The dashboard and AI functions you combine depend on your question, data and chosen configuration.
Frequently asked questions
Is every interactive dashboard an AI dashboard?
No. Filters, selections and drill-down options are not AI in themselves. Ask which specific task AI supports and how it works. Sometimes a clearly configured dashboard without AI already provides sufficient support.
Can AI explain why a figure changes?
Depending on the setup, AI can help investigate differences or formulate possible explanations. However, an observed relationship does not prove causation. Test explanations against additional data and knowledge of the relevant business process.
Do we need historical data for prediction?
Suitable historical data is important for many predictive analyses, but volume alone is not enough. Representativeness, process changes and the chosen method also matter. Decide in advance how you will assess forecasts for usefulness.
What is a suitable first application?
Choose a recurring question with established definitions and a responsible user. Compare the result with a checked analysis. Then assess whether AI genuinely helps understanding or follow-up questioning rather than merely adding more text.
